Rhetorical Analysis of Four Sources on Teenager Abuse Drug

The website article “Booze” and Today’s Teenager” by Glenda Walpole-Szabo and Pat Sangam talks about how students are using drugs and drinking alcohol to get rid of the problems and it helps them to reduce their anxiety. The writer shows us how it became the primary health problem for those students who are addicted. Moreover, Drugs became the main problem for this generation and mainly teenagers are getting addicted to drugs. The author also discussed how younger students are getting drug addicted and putting themselves into serious problems such as car accidents and morbidity rates increased.

In this magazine article “Illegal Drug Use By Teenager Is On Decline’’ U.S Study Finds by Micah Cohen is about how this generation kids are growing up with wiser knowledge about drugs and also from the research we can see how the rates of students who take drugs are increasing day by day. For example,” A survey showed a decline of 23 percentage since 2001 in the percentage of students who said they had used “any illicit drug” in the month before taking the survey, with 14.9 percent saying they had used such drugs.” This shows that students using drugs knowing the risks of their lives and still not willing to quit which is the reason of the increasing rate of drug-taking and we can see it in the surveys. Additionally, the author mentioned how professionally prescribed medication misuse speaks to a bigger piece of the complete issue. Also, the National Youth Anti-Drug influences young people to remain medication free.

In the newspaper article, “Drug abuse among America’s children continues to rise’’ by Jackson Miss talks about how illegal use of oxytocin and prescription drugs increased in recent years and showed us how students can get themselves out of the problem of drinking and taking drugs. Additionally, the author also talked about the Narconon program and talked about his participation in the program. For example, Narconon says, “Crime, violence and decay of morals and education continue to rob Americans of their way of life.” This asserts that Americans children are getting involved in many illegal activities and crimes and this all is happening because of drug addiction. When they take drugs, they can’t judge the differences between right and wrong. Most of the time, this leads them to choose the wrong thing which leaves a negative effect on their life and society. Furthermore, he mentioned how he saved a few lives by telling people about the Narconon program.

The blog article “Effects of Drug and Alcohol Abuse on Teenagers’’ by Anonymous highlighted the increase of drug use in our society. The article also shows a study that tells most people start using drugs as a teenager and that’s how they get addicted to it. For example, “Many people became addicted to harmful substances at a young age which can continue into adulthood.” This means how many people started using drugs from an early age and that’s why it’s hard for them to quit then they are adults. Because they are doing it since they are young and that became a habit. Using cocaine, marijuana, alcohol can cause many physical and mental illnesses. The Anonymous writer also talks about how drugs are causing social abuse and change in sexual behavior in a negative way.

Rhetorical Situation

The author shared many important information in this article so that parents and teachers can understand why students are getting into drugs and alcohol. The causes of most students drinking are pressure, anxiety, stress and they use alcohol to deal with all these. The cause of most young kids drinking at a young age are impaired driving accidents and increased morbidity rates. But if we can take the teenagers to the program where they talk about drugs, it might help them to get rid of the problem. Those programs will change their knowledge, attitude, motivation, and behavior regarding alcohol and drugs.

On the other hand, in a magazine article, the author tried to explain to the audience how this generation kids are growing up with wiser knowledge about drugs which is not good for teenagers. Also, prescription drugs are playing a big role because young people are taking it and we have to begin creating messages for youngsters about the perils of abusing physician endorsed drugs. Also, the National Youth Anti-Drug influences young people to remain medication free.

The author felt the need to write this newspaper because he thought that from this news, a lot of people can get to know about the Narconon program. Narconon program is about helping people to get out of using drugs and drinking alcohol. Narconon is one of the most successful programs and it has been providing for over 35 years. One of the Narconon graduates said that their technology and the people saved his life. Also, the author talked about the Narconon program and talked about his participation in the program. Therefore, this program is a great opportunity for teenagers to get rid of the problem of taking drugs and drinking alcohol.

Drugs are spreading in a vast amount among teenagers. Research studies show that most people start using drugs when they’re teenagers and as time passes, they are not able to stop themselves which is the main reason for how drugs are effectively spreading in society. Most of teenagers start using drugs because of peer pressure, work pressure or personal issues when they can’t handle reality. They use drugs and alcohol as a coping mechanism to handle the situations. There are so many negative impacts of using drugs and alcohol like causing memory loss, depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses.

The purpose:

The purpose of Glenda Walpole-Szabo was to aware the parents and teachers. To figure out how we can change student’s behavior, attitude and motivation behind drinking by giving them knowledge about alcohol and how bad it is for them. Also, researchers came with the method of stopping those students from drinking and parents and teachers should be cautious about this.

The purpose of the author is to show the people how the rate of students taking drugs and drinking alcohol is increasing day by day. And one of the main reasons is that those young people can take a prescription drug.

On the other hand, the newspaper article aims at informing the readers about how the Narconon program can help those teenagers get rid of the problems of taking drugs and drinking alcohol. And this program helped so many people to get rid of this problem and also the author of this article.

The purpose of the blog article is to spread awareness among the people to not involve themselves with drugs and alcohol. Drugs and alcohol are causing many kids of social impacts. Physical and mental illness is also a very controversial topic when it comes to the topic of drugs and alcohol.

Audience:

The audience from the four articles are the same. The main audience from the four articles are teenagers. All the authors are talking about how teenagers are getting addicted to drugs and alcohol and how the rates of taking drugs and alcohol is increasing day by day. Also, in the website article, the writer mentioned how parents and teachers should be more cautious about this situation. In the newspaper article, the author’s audience was people who are addicted to drugs and drinking because he suggested the program for everyone who is trying to get rid of the problem of drinking alcohol and taking drugs.

The Genre

The genre of the website article is teenagers and abuse drugs. The author of the article was concerned about teenagers and how they are getting themselves into drugs. The article was published in May/June 1987 and it can be reached in print and online.

The genre of the newspaper article and magazine article are somewhat similar. The language was formal and straight. Both articles described to the audience how prescription drugs are playing a big role in the young generation who are taking drugs.

The genre of the blog article is drug abuse. The language of the article is straight. The article is described in a simple way so that the audience can understand easily. The anonymous writer also added research results that can be used as evidence. The topic is very debatable and that’s why people can make comments easily.

The Stance

Although the four articles have the same stance which is drug abuse and the effect of that on the teenagers, both the website and the blog article have the same stance that how drugs, and alcohol are affecting people in their daily life. For example, in the website article “Booze and the Today’s Teenager” by Glenda Walpole Szabo and Pat Sanagan says, “In a recent survey of adolescent school health service public health nurse reported that drug and alcohol abuse is a major health concern. “In the provinces, it was the primary health problem. “Similarly, the blog post asserts,” Abusing harmful substances such as heroin, cocaine, and alcohol negatively affects both the physical and mental health of teenagers, and drug and alcohol abuse lead to various other complications.” This means drugs and alcohol are spreading so many negative health effects on teenagers’ lives which can cause many problems for them. Both writers used formal language so that it’s easy for the audience to understand.

However, the newspaper article,” Drug Abuse Among America’s children continues” by Jackson Miss talks about how drugs are increasing throughout the country and teenagers are getting access to prescription drugs which is why they are getting addicted to it. The “Illegal Drug by Teenager Is on Decline” by Mican Cohen also asserts how teenagers are using drugs in every possible way which is harmful to them. For example, “Prescription drug abuse represents a larger part of the total problem.” It means teenagers are using drugs way too much that is leading them in the wrong way. Most of the teenagers are using prescription drugs which is becoming a big problem for our society. The writer of the newspaper article also used some rehab addresses so that when people do research on it, they can easily find some rehabilitation for drug abuse. Both writer Jackson Miss and Mican Cohen used formal language for the people to understand the topic better and to educate themselves more about the topic.
